Ptosis

A ptotic or droopy upper eyelid may be present at birth or develop during one’s lifetime. A ptotic
upper eyelid covers a significant portion of the eye and interferes with peripheral or central vision.
While there are numerous causes including neurogenic and muscular abnormalities, a droopy lid
typically results from wear and tear. Over time the tendon which raises the upper eyelid stretches
so significantly that its attachment within the eyelid weakens. The treatment for a ptotic lid is
surgical.
