Botox® & Fillers
Textural changes within the face result from aging and exposure to sunlight. The deep folds, wrinkles, and creases which develop over time are lessoned using a variety of techniques including laser resurfacing, botulium toxin, and fillers.
Botox® has been utilized by Doctor Rodgers for more than a decade. Manufactured by Allergan, Botox® Cosmetic is FDA approved for the treatment of glabellar lines (frown lines in the forehead). Xeomin®, manufactured by Merz, is also FDA approved. Their principle action is to weaken muscles, the repetitive contracture of which results in dynamic and static wrinkles. Botox® and Zeomin® are also helpful in lessening crows feet, and raising a droopy eyebrow and lid. Both lasts approximately three to four months. Side effects are rare.
Fillers are materials which replace soft tissue volume lost to aging. There are various fillers used to decrease the depth of facial lines, particularly in the nasolabial fold (the fold between the nose and the upper lip) and in the forehead. Restylane® and Perlane®, manufactured by Q-med and marketed by Medicis Pharmaceutical, were FDA approved in 2005 and 2007, respectively. Both are hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring sugar-like material present in human skin, cartilage, and bone. Synthetically manufactured, neither require skin testing. Their effects last 6-9 months and there are minimal side affects (bruising and swelling). Juvederm® and Juvederm Ultra® are another type of hyaluronic acid fillers. Manufactured by Allergan and FDA approved in 2005, Juvederm® and Juvederm Ultra® are highly effective in restoring youthfulness and fullness to the eyelids, lips and face. Belotero® is a new filler which is a softer material used for fine lines and tear troughs. Radiesse®, a wonderful volumizer made of calcium hydroxyapatite, stimulates collagen formation.
